• Florida Uniform Verification (Wind Mitigation) Changes 1 April 2026

Beginning April 1, 2026, Florida is implementing an updated Uniform Mitigation Verification Inspection Form (OIR-B1-1802), introducing stricter documentation, modernized building code standards, and reorganized questions based on the 2024 Residential Wind-Loss Mitigation Study. Key changes include more precise roof deck attachment requirements, enhanced photo-heavy documentation for all features, and updated classifications for roof-to-wall connections.

This update represents the first major overhaul in several years, aiming to align insurance discounts with current wind-resistive construction techniques.

So what does this mean for you, the homeowner?  Expect greater clarity in providing potential discounts to your insurance premiums based on the conditions and building standards as these updates help to define.  Your inspector will have more "work to do".  Should documentation of changes to your home or proof of product be requested, from your inspector, please provide whatever documents you have to better help you, the homeowner.

Additional requirements to the new OIR-1802, effective 01 April 2026 are required for the inspector.  These may include an increased burden of proof required for inspectors to provide, in many cases, specific permits, product approvals, and clear, high-resolution photos for every credit claimed.

If no changes have been made to the structure, Citizens will continue to accept the previous version of the form, OIR-B1-1802 (Rev. 01/12), if it was completed within five years prior to April 1, 2026.
